Golden Moments

GOLDEN MOMENTS

In the first chapter of Revelation the Apostle John said, “I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and I heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet saying, what thou seest write in a book and send to the seven churches.”   Then he said, “I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And having turned I saw seven golden candlesticks; and in the midst of the candlesticks one like unto a son of man.” Jesus identified the candlesticks to John as seven churches. In the second chapter Jesus revealed that He walks in the midst of the candlesticks. He walks in the midst of His churches.

It should be obvious to the Christian that when Jesus wanted to symbolize the church with something, He chose the element that is most precious to man, that element is gold. Everything about the church is precious to Jesus. The Christian needs to look upon the church as Fort Knox. The church is the Lord’s greatest treasure on this earth.

With this in mind should not the Christian look upon the first day of the week as the day with the golden opportunity to observe the Lord’s Supper as we eat of the bread and drink of the cup. Is there any other event that can compare with it? Especially is this true when we note that the Holy Spirit speaking through the Apostle Peter tells us that we were not redeemed with corruptible things such as silver and gold, from our vain manner of life handed down from our fathers; but with precious blood, as of a Lamb, without blemish and without spot, even the blood of Christ.
